Promoting Good Mental Health at Pine Grove
May 11, 2023
May is Mental Health Awareness Month, and Pine Grove is spreading awareness by giving tips and showing how we practice good mental health at our skilled nursing facility. We prioritize giving quality care to our residents, families and staff members, and that starts with having good mental health.

Practicing good mental health is essential in everyone's personal life. Learning helpful tips is important, as it does not always come naturally for most people. Here are our top five tips!
- Staying positive rather than focusing on the negative.
- Practicing gratitude every day, which means being thankful for the good things in your life (big or little!)
- Taking care of your physical health, since your physical and mental health are connected. Be active, be mindful of the food you are putting into your body and drink plenty of water!
- Connecting with others. Lean into your relationships and have a support system.
- Developing a sense of meaning and purpose in life. Find something you enjoy like a hobby. Remember if you have a breath, you have a purpose.

Practicing good mental health at Pine Grove starts by understanding how mental health impacts our team. Here are some of the agendas we have in place to make sure our staff members feel heard, cared for and supported.
- Including mental health coverage as part of our healthcare plan. We have an Employee Assistance Program (EAP) where we offer free and confidential assessments, short-term counseling, referrals and follow-up services to employees who may be struggling with mental health.
- Having an open line of communication with all staff. Our Management Team tries to know every one of their employees by making sure they know they can come and talk at anytime.
- Promoting well-being by providing fun things at work that include both staff and residents so they can work together. For example, Walkie Talkie Bingo, Walkie Talkie Trivia and even Infection Control Trivia!
- Showing our team how appreciated they are by buying lunch, breakfast or ordering coffee unannounced. They love these surprises!
Pine Grove promotes a healthy quality of life for everyone at our skilled nursing facility. We focus on enhancing the self-worth of our residents and staff members.
